New Art Wall Exhibition from The -5 Collective

Essex arts group, The Minus 5 Collective will be exhibiting at Leigh Community Centre on their Community Art Wall this month with a collection of work from its amateur and professional artists.

The exhibition entitled Latent Image is a reference to photographic negatives which exist but remain hidden until circumstances are right for development.

Photographers, a milliner, painters and print makers from the group have all responded in their own way to the imposed isolation of the pandemic. Now able, once again, to emerge into the community, the group hope that the artwork they have created will bring people together, bring pleasure and hopefully inspire others to create, whatever their skill level or subject. Photographer, Nicola says: ‘Having a creative focus has helped lots of us during difficult times and to share a bit of our journey through our work is a real privilege.’

Art is definitely for all and with this ethos in mind the group encourages, amateur and professional artists of any age to collaborate, share and exhibit their work with the support of the group.  Founder member Cole Watkins, who works mostly on film, recently took part in the Essex Photographer of the Year, which has brought new artists to their group from all over Essex. Some of the new members in the now 13 strong group include; fellow award winner Emma Holloway who works digitally and is currently studying advertising; amateur photographer Debbie Taylor who is exhibiting for the first time after purchasing a camera just before lock down and Headwear designer Laura Harvey, who is introducing some of her fabulous creations ahead of her first year in the Leigh Art Trail.

You can view the work of all 13 artists in this free exhibition at Leigh Community Centre 14th February to 18th March. Artworks are available to buy with 10% of sales going to Camp Jojo, a charity which provides the incredible opportunity for children with complex needs and their families to experience camping together (www.campjojo.org).
